Melbourne Airport - 25 January 2015

If the attendance at this game is any indication of the year ahead, then we are certain to have a successful year.

Forty players arrived on the day even though some 9 of our regulars were missing. Many had never played this course, whilst the rest like me who had not played it for the last 20 odd years, were eager to see how it had changed.  And pleasantly surprised were we.

As before, the wind still blew all day and the planes still flew overhead.  However, it was quite evident that much work has been done on course improvement, as many fairways now have luscious grass growth and all greens although slow, were in very good condition.

Our playing group included Andris Lapins who decided to join our club after playing with us as a visitor, Roman Slywka, who travelled all the way from Wodonga, and Lee Aitken who only a week earlier married Sofica, the youngest daughter of Wally Orfini. (Most of us still wonder how he managed to get such a quick leave pass)

Although the course in my opinion is quite testing, we still managed to get some excellent scores in our daily comp of 4BBB stableford. We were also pleased to hear that our new member Jordan Willmott, who is also a member of Melbourne Airport G.C., shot a gross 69 in their Saturday comp the day before. I hope that some of Jordan’s golfing skills rub off on many of us, (especially me).

Our mission was accomplished as our day concluded with the presentation and continued socialising. Again a day well spent.

So until we meet again in February at the Growling Frog,

Good health & good golfing.
