The unseasonable weather that has shone over Perth in the recent weeks continued as we prepared for our April Match. The 8.00am start meant that most of us had to wake before the birds and take to the road not long after.
We had a good turnout, with fifteen players in attendance and all were eager to improve on their previous game.
No-one conquered the course on the day, but a changing of the guard looks imminent with Ray Baran showing that a little tuition goes a long way. Ray won with a net 77 from Andrew Hurba on 77.9 and Simon Korzec coming in third on 78.
The other winners on the day were;
Hole #4 Longest drive - Wally Sluszarczuk
Hole #8 Nearest the Pin - Alex McLean
Hole #13 Nearest the Pin - Kevin Porter
Hole # 18 Longest Drive - Wally Sluszarczuk
The Money Hole, which had jackpotted to $30.00, was won by Simon Korzec. No-one could better his five on the par 4 first.
Highlights:
1. Kevin’s attempt to qualify for the Sydney 2000 Olympics. His entry for the Hammer Throw was thwarted by Sun City’s decision to plant a tree in the flight path of his 3 wood, naturally the tree won and Kevin ended up with an extra club in his bag.
2. The best highlight came at the 13th hole by the anonymous driver’s in one of the motorised cart in group 1. It appears they thought they were either Carlos Sainz or Possum Bourne attempting a stage at Langley Park for Rally Australia. Their 360o spin at the bottom of the hill was straight from the text books, "close your eyes and hope for the best". Witnesses agreed that it was a perfect "10" - pity their golf wasn’t that good.
Points are allocated on the following facets of each round:
39 Ludwik Majewski
35 Andrew Hurba
28 Ray Baran

Five matches were due to be played on Sunday, to complete Round One of Match Play. The results were;
In Match 2 we saw Daniel Rosowski enjoy a six stroke advantage over Ivan McLean. However, Daniel was not able to utilise this advantage and succumbed to Ivan, 5 & 4.
As Mark McLean was unable to participate, Ray Baran progressed through the second round without having to exert any effort.
Match 6 had Kevin Porter giving Andrew Berehovy six strokes as well true to form Kevin showed he knew which holes to win and did so in 5 & 4
In one of the biggest starts of the day, Match 7 saw Ludwik Majewski concede a massive 16 strokes to Steve Fairbairn. This advantage was expected to topple Ludwik and had all participants anxiously awaiting the final result. Alas, the expected boilover did not eventuate and Ludwik won 6 & 3.
The final pair home in Match 8 were Emilio
Di Labio and Andrew Lozyk. Emilio expected a tough contest from Andrew and although Andrew enjoyed a six stroke advantage, Emilio showed that a "sure & steady" game was enough to win the day and did so in 5 & 4.
Well done to all those who made it through to the next round. They are:
