CAPTAIN’S REPORT – Mornington 25 October
2009
Sunday morning up with the sun, (hey, I only went to bed a few hours ago), probably explains why I
was running a little late this morning, just finished work at 1am and had a long drive - what the heck, it‟s a club golf game and what one would not do for the Ukrainian Golf
Club – worth the drive just to see those great
smiling faces of the diehard Ukrainian golf players that are so dedicated to the monthly games.
This month only 22 dedicated golf players made the effort to attend this great
picturesque course at Mornington, with such marvelous views of Port Phillip Bay.
The game was par, liked by some and hated by others, but nevertheless a fun game
for all to enjoy. This overcast day brought a lot of changes, strong winds, rain and a little sunshine;
typical Melbourne‟s four seasons in one day, but we
would not have it any other way!
In my opinion the course itself was in great condition and very testing under
the conditions, as reflected in the scores on the day. The companionship as always was right up there on the
highest level of fun.
My playing partners and I had some fantastic shots eg Steve Kohut with that
monster drive, even though he forgot to write his name on the marker and had to go back when he remembered, and one
of my own chip shots off the green and into the hole which saved my butt and enabled me to score on the
11th hole.
One of the sad things that has to be mentioned, our booking numbers are down but
hopefully with the better weather coming up a lot more of our members will find it more enticing to play golf
again.
We look forward to seeing more players attend our monthly games, as we need as
much practice as we can, so we can reclaim the winner‟s trophy
from Sydney at the next Melbourne – Sydney challenge, which is only 7 months away.
Till we meet next time at the Dunes.
Yours truly,
Roman Popowycz Club Captain
