What a magnificent morning. The bureau of meteorology
predicted rain and cold weather, but who are we Ukrainians to believe the weather(man)
person.
As my card marker stated, you could not ask for better weather, as we started
our assault of this fantastic Eynesbury course, not a breath of wind, ever so mild and this
course is such fantastic condition.
I had the pleasure of playing with two other committee members being Leon
Churutskj and the president Mick Charenko and my son Mykola, and on this solmer day of
mourning for me I had a lot on my mind.
I do have to apologies to Michael Charenko for not announcing his great
achievement of 200 games, though I acknowledged him and presented him with a club towel and
club pen prior to the game, Mick please accept my apology for this and my congratulations for
200 games.
Back to the game, my group teed of on the 10th hole, such a
challenging hole to start with, Leon led the way with one of his special drives, you know the
ones he is capable of, and followed by Mick Charanko, at least one could see his ball on the
fairway, but Mick was out driven on this hole by my son Mykola (who I must say is only a
novice at this game, having only played six games to date) who hit the best drive he has ever
done and the kid was very proud that he out drove the president on the 1st hole,
of course this did not last very long, the kid had to pick up his ball after the
10th shot on this hole, but his statement was his good drive to begin
with.
These undulating fairways were in such good condition, but if you strayed of
into the ruff you were in trouble – finding ones ball in the ruff was almost impossible – but
finding other lost balls in the ruff was easy, I call this the Eynesbury ruff, a hazard on
every hole, a player would prefer to be in a bunker than in the ruff, at least you knew where
you ball was and you could get a shot out of the bunker – I think our lost ball searches
should have had a field day picking up stray balls out of this long grass, not only the long
grass, some of the water hazards not to mention the small bushes, I took a photo of a ball I
found on the 7th hole see
attachment..
It was the same sort of ball as I was using, but thank the lords it wasn’t
mine.
I was playing this game with the memory of my father, whom I lost 23 years ago
this day, and having my own son by my side and the company of some good friend around, made
for a very pleasant tribute.
Speaking about tributes, maybe we should dedicate some of our games in honor of
past members or families, just to say we remember them.
Unfortunately I will not be at our next game at Growling Frog, but wish you all
a good game.
Till next time.
